About these parts
Factory steering components on the 4th Gen 4Runner develop play once the truck is running heavier tires and seeing regular trail use — the same complaint owners of the platform-mate Lexus GX470 report.
The Toyo-Steering billet Tundra conversion rack kit addresses it with heavier Tundra-spec steering components in a fully CNC-machined billet housing. The redesign narrows rack width for full stroke, corrects the bore axis so tie rods clear coilovers, and shifts the pinion closer to center to eliminate frame notching. Bushings are cut to fit the J120 frame and the OEM intermediate shaft is reused.
One fitment note worth reading before you order: Tundra outer tie rods use a different taper than the stock 4Runner spindle, so the spindle needs to be reamed to a 1:10 taper. Toyo-Steering will service your spindles or sell you reamed ones.
Cut for the 2003–2009 4Runner (N210). The 2010 and newer 5th Gen is a different platform. For off-road use only — installing it voids factory warranty coverage on steering components.
